12mo Lace Paper Valentine with Hidden Message - Scap of dressed cherub courting

London: 1850s. A charming 12mo valentine made from gilt lace paper, blue decorated paper peeking out from underneath, and an embossed chromolithographed scrap depicting a winged cupid in 18th century garb holding out a love letter and bouquet to the viewer. Includes a hidden chromolithographed birthday message titled "On a Birthday", which is revealed when the scrap is lifted from the lace paper: "This tributary verse, Warm with such love as ne'er shall find an end..." Measures approx. 4" by 2.75" Very good. Minor spotting. Some damage to blue paper on verso. Neck of cupid delicate/creased.
