Late Biedermeier Friendship Album
German: 1844-1859. A German friendship album begun at the very end of the Biedermeier era, featuring fifteen (15) loose leaves with manuscript verse and several blank leaves below. The entries were gathered from friends of the original owner between 1844 and 1859. A couple include hand-colored decorated scraps, and there is one engraving sometime excised from an unidentified contemporary publication. All entries are in German. Includes the original ribbon at the bottom of the box to more easily lift the contents, and an illustrated board with handle to cover the leaves when the box is first opened. Box is covered in decorated papers and designed to resemble a book with all edges gilt. Measures approx. 3" by 5" by 0.5" Very good. Minor flaws including spotting, tonng, rubbing/wear. Ribbon frayed but present.
