The Ned Wayburn News Vol. I, No. 3
New York, New York: The Ned Wayburn Studios of Stage Dancing, Inc., 1924. Vol. I, No. 3 of The Ned Wayburn News, "A Publication for all who are interested in Dancing". Ned Wayburn (1874-1942) was a popular stage choreographer known for his work on the Ziegfeld Follies and for developing talent in every big stage name from Gilda Gray and Mae West to Richard Rodgers and Fred Astaire. The present publication served as an advertisement for his dance studio, which essentially promised to develop customers into stars. This issue's top story focuses on a young Marion Davies at the height of her film career, and also features stories on Geraldine Farrar, current Wayburn productions, and famous Wayburn pupils such as high society matron Mrs. Vinton Dahlgren Pierce. Lists some quotes about Wayburn in the press, and ends with a pitch for the Studio. A fascinating look into how the entertainment machine in the 1920s developed and churned out starlets. Printed bifolium (12" by 9"), pp. 4, photo illus. Near-fine.
