The New Game of Snip, Snap, Shorum

The directions card references that the amusing game is very simple, however it requires a complicated sequence of eliminating "family" members in a particular order. Maybe you just have to play it and it will become easier.

N.pl: N.p, c.1860s. A scarce example of a c.1865 card game in the original box, titled "The New Game of Snip, Snap, Shorum". Featuring comical illustrations that would be right at home in a vinegar valentine, the game aims to amuse and delight. Contains several racist and stereotypical depictions that would be distasteful to audiences today (e.g. "Miss Ebony Flathead"). At least one other version of the game was published c.1890, with more explicitly racist imagery (if that is possible). A complete set is comprised of the following components: five suits of four cards for a total of twenty (20) playing cards hand-stenciled with color; two (2) printed directions cards; two (2) uncut counter cards; and the original illustrated box. This set lacks one of the printed directions cards and several cut counters, but is otherwise complete. Box measures approx. 4.25" by 3.25" by 1" Very good. Minor dust soiling, toning. Cards a little bowed but in otherwise excellent shape.
