WWII Jeweler Advertising with Moving Patriotic illustrations - Lest We Forget

At the bottom of the front panel: "Worth fighting for: Freedom of Speech. Freedom from Want. Freedom from Fear. Freedom of Religion"

Bennington, Vermont: Miles Jewelers, 1944. A WWII-era leaflet advertising Miles Jewelers of Bennington, Vermont, filled with patriotic imagery and message in support of the war effort. The front panel shows a stereotypical and idealized image of a White heteronormative American family with community members gazing admiringly at an American flag, with factories in the background working towards the war effort to support the troops abroad. When unfolded, the following panels are revealed: a chart for recording war bonds purchased; a calendar for entering birthdays and anniversaries; and a panel for recording information about a loved one, friend, or family member in the armed forces, with spaces for a photo, date entered service, and promotions. On either side of this panel are two fascinating images summing up gender roles in 1944 America. On the left, masculinity is shown as Uncle Sam rolling up his sleeves in front of a crowd of muscular laborers and businessmen; on the right, a beautiful blonde woman cradles an infant against a backdrop showing other women serving in the armed forces and volunteering on the homefront. Measures approx. 6.25" by 5" folded, 12.5" by 15" unfolded. Very good to near-fine. Minor toning/sunning.
