"Men for the State; Women for the Home" - 1911 Anti-Women's Suffrage Pamphlet

Chicago, Illinois: Illinois Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage, 1911. An anti-women's suffrage bulletin issued by the Illinois Association Opposed to Woman Suffrage in June 1911. The bulletin focuses chiefly on what it perceives as the great threat of Socialism, which is to uproot the social order by destroying the family unit and institution of marriage. Includes an interesting argument that implies socialism equates to promiscuity: "It is the family which gives the woman the true recognition of her equality with man ... If she may have one child by an unmarried father, that is the beginning of her career. Must the next, and the next, for her appetite will no doubt grow by what it feeds upon, have the same father. But if so, is not this practically marriage, against which she is protesting, or shall there be a different father for each child. In that case how does the woman's position differ from promiscuity, which is indeed about what Socialism demands for all its followers" (p. [4]). Printed bifolium (8.75" by 6"). Good. Dust soiling, short tears, creasing, modern paper repairs.
