Lancaster Mills Gingham Fabric Sample
Clinton, Massachusetts: Lancaster Mills, c.1890. An attractive and well-preserved sample of gingham fabric, contained within a lithographed card bifolium with image of a fashionable young lady on the front, and an aerial view of the Lancaster Mills factory on the back. Opposite the fabric sample is a description of the manufacturer: "The Lancaster Mills, Clinton, Massachusetts, are the oldest and best equipped Gingham Mills in the country. For HALF A CENTURY they have manufactured the well known Lancaster Gingham in Staples, Fancies, Normandies, and Zephyrs, noted for perfection and durability of fabric, FAST COLORS and novel designs..."
Bifolium card (3.75" by 3.75"), lithographed with square gingham sample (3.25" by 3.25") pasted to second leaf recto. Very good to near-fine. Minor toning, offsetting from fabric sample; some sunning or toning to second leaf verso. Minor rubbing to spine, one or two spots.
