Finely Wrought 1880s Hairwork Token with Manuscript Note
Freehold, New Jersey: 1887. A decorative and very finely wrought, example of hair work with dozens of tiny loops. Presumably the basis of a mourning token. The hair is dark brown and fine in texture. Housed in an early envelope with the following pencil inscription: "Freehold, N.J. March 14 1887. The contents of this Envelope is dear to me I hope it will never be destroyed while I live. Alfred Cooper." Thankfully, it was not destroyed and survives for us to treasure for him today. Measures approx. 3" by 1.5". Envelope measures approx. 3.25" by 6.5" Very good. Wear and staining to envelope.
