"The New Ice Plow" -- Early 1870s Ice Plow Circular

Ridgefield Station, Connecticut: Geo. B. Gruman, c.1873. An early 1870s circular advertising innovative ice plows manufactured by George B. Gruman of Ridgefield, Connecticut. Gruman (b.1827) patented the plow in 1872. The purpose of the plow was to cut large blocks of ice from local bodies of water to supply local ice houses for the year. It is worth mentioning that Connecticut's climate today could never support such a practice; it has warmed considerably. Includes six testimonials, and a brief pitch from Gruman at the top lauding the plow as "superior". Measures approx. 10" by 8", verso blank. Very good. Light spotting/staining, toning. Letter folds.
