The Game of Snap

Salem, Massachusetts: Parker Brothers, c.1900. An illustrated card game from Parker Brothers, themed around the "snap" of an alligator's mouth. The game is played by two or more players, and the goal is to collect all of the cards in the deck. To collect cards, a player must call out "Snap" when matching cards are turned from face down to face up. The images on the cards include: an alligator about to snap the head of a fisherman; a school master about to spank a naughty student; a bulldog chasing a man; a man stepping on a firecracker; a man slipping on slick pavement; a boy being bitten by a turtle; a swimmer being pinched by a crawfish; a man stepping on a set of jacks and dropping a baby; and a racist stereotype of an island "savage" swinging an ax at a white man's head. This set is incomplete, and lacks several cards, but does include the original instruction sheet and illustrated box. Each card measures approx. 2.5" by 3.5"; printed instructions bifolium measures approx. 3" by 4.5"; box measures approx. 4" by 5.5" by 0.75" Good. Light dust soiling, wear to extremities of box. A couple short tears to instructions sheet. Lacking cards. Modern tape repairs to box.
