United States: 1860s. An illustrated cover depicting Jefferson Davis in a political cartoon. It is titled "Jeff. And the Showman.", and depicts a seated Jefferson Davis peering into an eyepiece connected to a box. A showman pulls strings on the side of the box. The caption quotes the showman saying, "At the end of the Avenue you perceive a white house, keep your eye on it and it will dissolve and fade from your view." Measures approx. 3" by 5.5", printed in blue. Postally unused. Near-fine.
