The first volume of an abridgment of treatises on morals and ethics by James Beattie, published in Philadelphia by Mathew Carey in 1792. A second volume was published in 1794 (not present here). First published in England in 1790. Interestingly, the adverts in the rear distinguish between books for sale that are "American Editions" and "Imported". The American books are priced, while the imported books remained unpriced. 12mo (7" by 4.25"), pp. [5], 6-221, [7], in near-contemporary leather with red spine label, ownership inscription of Isaac Shelvan (?) to title-page, pencil markings to endpapers, printed review tipped in. Poor.
