"Le Savetier et le Financier" -- Au Bon Marché Advertising Transformation Card
Paris, France: Au Bon Marché, c.1900. A charming c.1900 illustrated advertising card for the famed Parisian department store "Au Bon Marché". Designed as a transformation, the card is titled "Le Savetier et le Financier" ("The Shoemaker and the Financier"). When a paper tab at the bottom of the card is pulled, the illustrated scene on the front changes from an illustration of a little boy making a shoe in a workshop to a little boy listening to the other sing, with a bag of coins on a table. Also reveals a Jean de La Fontaine quote at the foot. Measures approx. 6" by 4", modern ownership ink stamp to verso. Very good. Light dust soiling, damage with some loss to left-hand edge of tab at foot.
