Garden City, Long Island: Adelphi College, c.1942. A WWII-era booklet promoting Adelphi College's commitment to training women in civilian defense, homefront, and wartime professions. Comprised of a detailed history of Adelphi's involvement in civilian defense education, it also features a host of in-text photographs of women engaging in or learning about defense work (e.g. Red Cross workers demonstrating proper bandaging techniques to a group of women). Single vol. (8.5" by 5.25"), pp. [20], illus., in original illus. wrps with photo of college building on front. Accompanied by a 7" by 4" printed bifolium leaflet promoting the College's wartime scholarship fun for training young women in essential war and post-war service, including accelerated college programs.
