Dressing for the Ball: A Romance of Cooley's Globe Corset
N.pl: 1880s. An amusing Victorian transformation, advertising Cooley's Globe Corset. The first image depicts two young ladies frowning, with a caption describing how unhappy one is with her frumpy figure, and how she fears her beau will not find her attractive. When the front flap is lowered, she is revealed to be wearing the Globe Corset and smiling with a new trim frame. The caption reads that "She was the most admired of all, and Charlie told his love so she lived ever after happily". A fun transformation that is very much "of its time" in terms of body image and gender roles. Measures approx. 3.75" by 3.5" folded, 5.75" by 3.5" unfolded. Watertown, New York sales agent advertised on verso. Good to very good. Light toning, dust soiling.
