American Institute of Instruction Membership Card
United States: American Institute of Instruction, 1851. Engraved membership card certifying that "Levi W. Leonard is a Member of the American Institute of Instruction" in 1851. It has been finished and signed in ink by the President and Secretary of the organization. The American Institute of Instruction was founded in 1830 in Boston, and was one of the first national teaching associations in the country. Their aims were primarily to elevate the teaching profession and level of instruction offered by schools. It held annual meetings and awarded essay prizes. Engraved on coated card with ink manuscript, measures approx. 3.25" by 4.5", verso blank. Good to very good. Dust soiling, a couple nicks.
