Goiter

The Metropolitan Life Insurance Company published dozens of public health booklets, offering advice on subjects ranging from healthy eating to the importance of vaccinating children against common diseases and safe teen driving.

Iodized salt was introduced as a commercially available food item in Michigan in 1924. Of particular note as those in the mid-west were less likely to encounter naturally iodized salt (seafood, etc.)>.

New York, New York: Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. A public health pamphlet for the general public on Goiter, "the easiest disease to prevent". Describes what the disease is, how to identify it, and how to prevent it ("A small amount of an iodide once a week"). Iodine deficiency is the most common cause of goiter, and salt was not widely iodized a the time. The pamphlet indicated that goiter may injure the mind as well as the body.

Printed bifolium (7.75" by 5.25"), printed in blue and black. Very good. Toned, a couple spots.
