Industry at Home for Victory Abroad: Four (4) Booklets Related to Industry and Workplace Safety in WWII

United States: United States Departments of Labor and Agriculture, 1940. A grouping of four (4) informational booklets highlighting the need for industry at home for victory abroad. Workplace safety is the most common theme, with three of the booklets addressing industrial hazards to workers; the final booklet addresses the need for American farmers to produce wood fuel for the war effort, and safety guidelines. Overall, the message is clearly that labor at home ensures victory abroad.

The four (4) items include:

"Safeguarding Manpower for Greater Production". [Washington, D.C.]: United States Department of Labor, [1940]. 8vo (9" by 5.75"), pp. 20, stapled in original printed self wrappers. Special Bulletin No. 1. Details "The importance of safe working conditions in maintaining and increasing industrial output for national defense", e.g. fire and electrical safety, personal sanitation and hygiene, and accident investigations and reports.

"Protecting Plant Manpower". [Washington, D.C.]: United States Department of Labor, 1941. 8vo (9.25" by 6"), pp. 69, [1], stapled in original printed self wrappers. Special Bulletin No. 3. Comprised of seven brief articles by experts cautioning against workplace accidents. Respiratory protection, fatigue, etc. addressed.

"Control of Welding Hazards in Defense Industries". [Washington, D.C.]: United States Department of Labor, 1941. 8vo (9.25" by 6"), pp. 15, [1], with in-text photo illustrations, stapled in original printed green wrappers. Special Bulletin No. 5. Provides overview of potential hazards in defense industries, including eye injuries, burns, poisoning, welding injuries, etc.

"Wood Fuel in Wartime". [Washington, D.C.]: United States Department of Agriculture, 1942. 8vo (9" by 6"), pp. 22, with in-text photo illustrations, stapled in original photo illustrated wrappers. Highlights need for wood fuel to be prepared in advance of wartime need, and the importance of "Nation-wide Production for Victory" (p. 1). Advantages of wood fuel, uses, labor, tools, grades, and production all covered. Very good. Minor toning, dust soiling. Pencil marking sometime erased on three of the booklets, pencil address to one booklet. One or two corners bumped.
