Gathering of Nine (9) Items Relating to Camp Fire Girls

Camp Fire Girls was established in 1910 to encourage young girls to engage with nature and self-improvement. It became co-ed in 1975, and added an inclusion clause in 1993 supporting LGBTQ+ children.

New York, New York: Camp Fire Girls, 1920s. A gathering of nine (9) items from the 1920s relating to an Iowa branch of the youth organization Camp Fire Girls. Highlights include three bound gatherings of typewritten meeting programs with lists of members and officers, as well as a handwritten copy of the constitution of the Ta-Ta Pocheon Camp Fire Group of Lovilia, Iowa. The items are:

Manuscript notes written in ink on blank printed "Report of Absences" form, 1920s. Lists ideas for Camp Fire Girls activities such as hikes and loaning books to members. Measures 8.5" by 5.5". Toned, a couple short tears.

Printed folding application, 1920s, for Guardian Appointment and Camp Fire Charter with 8 pp. of organization information (including dues) and a questionnaire for the prospective applicant. Measures 7" by 4.25" folded. Lightly toned; vertical fold.

Bound gathering of typewritten meeting programs for the Ta-Ta-Pochon Club of Selma, Iowa spanning May 6 to Aug. 23, 1922. 13 leaves, Measures 5" by 8.75". Ink ownership inscription of Willia J. Harlan to first leaf. Contains list of officers and members.

1927 Camp Fire Girls Membership Campaign mailing blank, advertising "The Big Parade" event of 1927. New members receive a special membership honor. Printed bifolium measuring 7.5" by 9.25"; letter folds.

A handwritten copy on notebook paper of the Constitution of the Ta-Ta Pocheon Camp Fire Group of Lovilia, Iowa, dated Jan. 8, 1927 and including names of the group's officers and board. Measures 11" by 8.5"; horizontal fold.

Handwritten letter in blue ink dated Mar. 24, 1927, from a young girl (Lara Blackstone of Lovilia, Iowa) to her local club president asking to consider her application for joining the local group. Folded in original addressed envelope measuring 3.5" by 5.5".

Typewritten letter dated Dec. 19, 1927 on Camp Fire Girls letterhead (including seal) from the organization's Executive Secretary. Two short tears to letter due to letter folds. Toned. Enveloped addressed and sent. Very good to fine.
