A Clown's Romance: Or, Won in the Big Tent
Lowell, Massachusetts: C.I. Hood & Co., c.1900. An exceedingly scarce illustrated advertising booklet for Hood's Sarsparilla, including a charming short story that captures all the excitement and spectacle of going to the circus. "A Clown's Romance" is printed on the versos, and descriptions of Hood's medicines and ailments treated are on the versos. The lower wrapper recto features a rather unique unique word search-like puzzle fashioned out of the words "Hood's Sarsparilla" in that "can be read in over two thousand different ways"; the verso advertises "The Wonderful Vanishing Lady and The Human Fly Walking on the Ceiling".
