Massey from Francis Gildart Ruffin (1816-1892), a Chesterfield County, Virginia planter, Confederate colonel, and political writer. Written during the turbulent Reconstruction period, in which the Virginia "Readjuster Party", lead by William Mahone, sought to re-appropriate power and wealth held by white planters in the state in order to pay down debt and promote education. Single vol. (9.5" by 6"), pp. 16, unbound. Good to very good. Toned with short tears, wear.
