Letter from New Hampshire Climatologist to Brother on August 8, 1898 Weather Map; A different way of

Given the locations noted in the letter one would almost believe that Perley Kimball was a prisoner, but alas he was a climatologist working at Grafton Farm in conjunction with Dartmouth.

Haverhill, New Hampshire: 1898. A letter handwritten in pencil on the back of a weather map published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, showing the upcoming forecast for Boston on Monday, August 8, 1898. Includes a temperature chart and a weather map with isobars/isotherms to show changes in air pressure and temperature. The letter itself, written on the verso, is written from Perley R. Kimball (1857-1919) to his brother Arthur (d.1924). Kimball appears to have been a climatologist, and is credited in at least one climatological report by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1911. In the present letter, he informs his brother of his arrival in Haverhill, describes its location, and asks for news. He reminds his brother to see to the horse's shoes, and wonders how his cucumbers and sweet corn are faring. Broadside (16.25" by 11") with chromolithographed map on recto, pencil correspondence on verso. Good to very good. Toned, Letter creases, minor short tears/chipping to extremities, minor dust soiling.
