Alphabete für die Stickerin ("Alphabets for the embroiderer")

Munich, Germany: Bibliothek D.M.C., Verlag von Th. de Dillmont, Dornach, c.1905. An alphabet book for embroiderers, including patterns for shaping letters, monograms, numerals and ornaments. Published by Bibliothek D.M.C., which remains today a major producer of embroidery thread, the book includes over ninety printed patterns plus several leaves of transfer patterns printed on wax paper (N.B. this copy is lacking at least two leaves of transfer patterns). The remainder of the book is dedicated to advertising another publication titled "Encyklopädie der weiblichen Handarbeiten" ("Encyclopedia of Female Handicrafts"), which showcases the fruits of female handiwork including mending, embroidery, lace making, weaving, and macramé. Contains lists of all the threads available, including info on color, thickness, fiber, etc. Oblong 12mo (5.5" by 8"), approx. 115 pp., unnumbered, with several leaves of wax paper transfer patterns, sewn in original illustrated paper-covered boards. Signed in later ink on upper wrapper verso by "Helen R. Quinn" Good to very good. Hinges and joints cracked, extremities worn with spine very worn. Some minor water staining, dust soiling, toning. The odd short tear. Lacking at least two leaves of transfer patterns. Lacking at least two leaves with plates no. 43-46.
