Boston, Massachusetts: Holman Liver Pad Co., c.1876. Illustrated trade card for Holman Liver Pad Co., advertising its liver-regulating pads and its Boston location, at which "A Lady competent to instruct and advise is in attendance at the Ladies reception room" (recto). Liver pads were a patent medicine tied to one's torso to treat or cure anything from ague to seasickness and jaundice. On the verso, it provides a list of "Land Marks" in Boston for visitors, including City Hall, Old South, and over a dozen businesses including the Holman Liver Pad Co.
