College Songs

Boston, Massachusetts: Emerson Piano Co., c.1897. A book of sheet music with lyrics advertising Emerson Piano Company of Boston, featuring "College Songs as sung by Harvard, Yale, Princeton and other colleges". The front depicts seven young college-aged men in tidy suits singing together around an Emerson brand piano. The content inside includes the songs, a brief history of the company, illustrations of the pianos in use by well-heeled customers, and images of a couple of the piano models accompanied by dimensions and name (e.g. "Style 23 Parlor Upright Model"). Prices are not listed, and the clientele is clearly upper-crust. An interesting look into how music making was enjoyed in this slice of American social history. Single vol. (9" by 6.75"), pp. [14], 63, [15], illus., in original illus. wrps.
