Provides interesting insight into what cities and sites were most sought after by American tourists. The albums, also referred to as "souvenir viewbooks", were published in the 1880s by Adolph Wittemann of New York and provided the American public with sightseeing views made from lithographs based on photographs. This reproduction process gives the viewbooks a distinctive look and feel, somewhere between photography and illustration. Includes domestic and international sightseeing high points, ranging from the Adirondacks to the St. Lawrence River. Also includes a couple of international cities (London and Paris). Printed bifolium (3" by 4.75"). Very good. Dust soiling, residue from adhesive to last page.
