c.1900 Printed Retail Wrapping Tissue Advertising Proctor & Gamble Brand Soap
N.pl: Procter & Gamble, c.1900. A highly scarce example of advertising tissue used by dry goods retail shops for wrapping purchases, advertising in this case Procter & Gamble's "White" brand soap. Examples rarely survive, because they were usually thrown away or repurposed when the products wrapped in them were brought home. Includes the brand logo with a half moon and stars, and a brief pitch for the product printed below: "It is smooth and soft on the hands, so is the best for washing clothes, as it is easily rinsed out". The tissue could have been used to wrap a variety of sundries and dry goods purchases. A great example of the kind of "everyday" ephemera women would have encountered at this time that shaped their material world. Measures approx. 12" by 8.75" Very good to near-fine. Light toning. Modern paper tabs to head where previously mounted.
