1853 "Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations" Souvenir Paper Percussion Cap Box

The percussion cap, percussion primer, or caplock, introduced in the early 1820s, is a type of single-use percussion ignition device for muzzle loader firearm locks enabling them to fire reliably in any weather condition.

United States: 1853. A scarce souvenir from the 1853 "Exhibition of the Industry of All Nations", a world's fair held in New York City. The paper box, measuring approx. 1.5" in diameter and 0.5" in height, was a percussion cap box. On one side is an engraving of an eagle with a seal with the name of the exhibition. On the other side is an advertisement for "Percussion Caps of Superior Quality with Metallic Cover, Warranted Waterproof" patented and produced by Scheidt Brothers of Ronsdorf. Good. Dust soiling, wear to extremities, remnants of label to sides.
