Vineyard Uniform U.S.", "Greatness is not goodness Geometry", and "Justice overtakes wrong January". The interior covers of the writing book provide instructions on how to hold a pen correctly and examples of "movement drill exercises" for one to practice. The front cover features several different engravings, all done in red ink. There is a boy and a girl seated at their desks, surrounded by a decorative border which features numerous tiny circles with images meant to represent the different states. In the center of the front cover is a large circle with an image representing the state of Indiana - a man chopping wood in a valley with what appears to be a wild boar in the background. The back cover features instructions on the "Essential Penmanship, Classification and Analysis of Letters". Completely filled. 24 pgs. Illustrated wrappers. Measures 8 1/2" x 7" . This child's strengths were most likely in areas other than penmanship.
