Friendship album of Loretta Mitchell. The first page of the album has an inscription and poem written by Loretta herself. The rest of the album includes short notes from her family and friends, including her husband, Frederick, and her two daughters, Lottie and Lilly. The entries in the journal date from 1861-1886, and when locations are noted, they are primarily Chicago but also mention Niles, Michigan. Penciled in front of book is " L.W. Mitchell 493 Wells St Chicago Ill."  There are four black and white engraved plates featuring women throughout, this includes the engraving on the album's title page. Below are some short excerpts from the album: "No jeweled beauty is my wife, Yet in her earnest face There's such a world of tenderness She needs no other peace. Her smiles and voice around my life IN light and music tune And dear, oh very dear to me, Is this young wife of mine." - Excerpt of poem written by Loretta's husband, Frederick "Friendship is a name, which is few confined, The offspring of pure and noble mind. Rarely we find those who in truth poses This brilliant gem of earthly happiness." - Excerpt from an entry by James Albrines, her nephew Blind stamp cover with gilt embellishment titles "Album of Remembrance". Interior pages are gilt edged. Measures 8" x 6 1/2".. Loretta Wood Mitchell was born on August 18, 1834 in New York City to Jamie Forsher and an unnamed woman. She married Frederick Mitchell (1832-1911) and together they had three children: Charles Irving Mitchell (1857-1939), Lottie Mitchell Wait (1861-?), and Lilly Mitchell (1865-?).
