An original poem written at the death of Maranda Stever on March 26, 1845. The poem is authored by an unknown individual and dated April 18, 1845. The poem is divided into seven stanzas, and each stanza is separated by hand drawn geometric decorative borders. Below is one of the poem's stanzas: "Though death has sealed her mortal tongue And closed her eyes on earth forever In Heaven thy trust she'll wake the song, Of praise, that ceases never ." A note added by presumably a family member at a later date on reverse regarding the deceased and her family. Measures 12" x 71/2". Maranda Stever was born in 1817. She married a man named Jeremiah and died on March 26, 1845 in Bristol, CT
