National Teachers' Institute and the American Educational Union Membership Application Flyer

New York, NY: National Teachers' Institute, November 4, 1874. A circular for the National Teachers' Institute and the American Educational Union. The front features their mission statement as well as various testimonials surround by a border of 34 state seals. It states that the societies are responsible for "supplying schools with teachers and pupils, and teachers with Schools and Positions, and furnishing philosophical and chemical apparatus, pianos, melodeons, music, books, globes, maps, school and private libraries, geological cabinets, &c." On the back side there is one section which states the plans of the organization, another that states the terms of membership and two more sections for a teacher to fill out to apply for membership. There are two paste downs on the back, one which offers a 10 percent discount to any teacher who replies within 10 days of receiving the circular and the other which offers a different tier of membership in the society. There is also an inscription, in ink, stating that this circular was address to J. E. Jocelyn and dated November 4, 1874. Measures 19" x 11 3/4" Toning and soiling due to age. Minor separation at folds. Inscription in both pen and ink.
