Reception and Banquet To Road Makers Congress

The congress was first formed in Detroit, MI, in 1903 by a meeting of road officials, which were mainly the staffs of state highway departments. This Congress, in Connecticut, was held on February 10th and 11th, 1903, and was only the second annual convention. It featured road officials from twenty-nine (29) different states.

The banquet was given by the Hartford Citizen's for the Road Makers Congress, which was an annual convention held by the American Road Makers' Association (ARMA) with the goal of promoting the means to make 'good roads' through design and construction methods. The item is the menu from the Congress' celebratory banquet which took place on February 10, 1904 at the First Regiment Armory was located on Elm Street in Hartford, CT. The menu from the reception features a list of the men on the executive committee for the convention as well as the reception committee, entertainment committee, finance committee, press committee, transportation committee, and hotel committee. Additionally, there is a blank page to fill out the names of the delegates attending by state. The menu for the reception included such delicacies as 'Blue points on Shell', 'Sweet Bread Croquettes', 'Tenderloin of Beef, Mushroom Sauce', and 'Frozen Pudding'. The lyrics to two songs, 'America' and 'Auld Lang Syne' are also provided. The Music was performed by the Colt's Orchestra of Hartford with singing provided by the Tempo Quartette of Hartford. The front cover features a light blue engraving with gilt accents on the dome of the Connecticut State Capitol Building. 8 pg. with printed card covers. Red string binding. Measures 9 3/4" x 4 1/2" General wear. A splattering of what appears to be coffee stains on the center spread of interior pages. Faint water stain on back cover.
