West Baden Springs Company Illustrated Letterhead

The West Baden Springs Hotel and was marketed as the height of luxurious health tourism, drawing visitors from around the world to its natural mineral water healing springs.

West Baden, Indiana: The West Baden Springs Company, 1904. Handwritten letter on illustrated letterhead for the West Baden Mineral Springs Company, "An Ideal Resort for Health and Pleasure". The letterhead depicts the hotel's luxurious and impressive turn-of-the-century architecture. The letter appears to be written to a friend from a hotel patron, who wasn't particularly impressed with the accommodations: "We have had enough of this blooming blasted sulfurous place for a season and beside we learn that a big hoard of Chicago Cheap Politicians are coming here early next week to get the booz [sic] boiled out of there and we want to get away before they strike the place".

Two sheets of lined illustrated letterhead measuring 11" by 8.5". Original illustrated envelope measuring 3.75" by 6.5" Very good to near-fine. Light toning, letter folds, some wear and dust soiling to envelope.
