"It was the Calm and Silent Night": Illustrated Christmas Hymn with Silk Fringe Border

George T. Andrew (fl.1855-1881) was a wood engraver active in Boston who worked in association with his father John A Andrew and the latter's partners in 1855-75 (www.britishmuseum.org).

Boston, Massachusetts: Lee and Shepard, 1884. A beautifully produced illustrated Christmas Hymn, with embossed chromolithographed wrappers and silk fringe border. Illustrations were "drawn and engraved the supervision of George T. Andrew" (p. [5]), and include sweeping nighttime views of Ancient Rome, the Holy Land, and the birth of baby Jesus. 4to (7.5" by 6.25), pp. [32], with in-text illustrations and additional illustrated title-page. Bound in original chromolithographed wrappers with silk fringe border, secured with cream-colored cord with tassels. All edges gilt. Fine.
