United States: 1870s. Handmade duodecimo Valentine (5.5" by 3.75") using green polished paper, Victorian scraps, and very fine examples of lace paper. One lace paper utilizes floral motifs, while the other depicts a bucolic scene with stags The embossed die-cut scrap is of Little Red Ridinghood and the Wolf. . Includes a charming poem stamped inside in gold ("Keep Thy Heart for Me"). Fine; one small tear to left-hand edge of lace paper (0.5 inch).
