Three (3) Sex Education Booklets from the British Social Hygiene Council

"The British Social Hygiene Council was founded in 1914 as the National Council for Combatting Venereal Diseases, and changed its name in 1925...A number of members of the commission and others concerned about the problem of sexually transmitted diseases came together to set up this Council, which was concerned with propaganda and education as well as the investigation of the problem. A leading motivating figure who continued to be a major figure in the Council's activities was Mrs Sybil Neville Rolfe (formerly Gotto)" (Wellcome Collection website).

London, England: British Social Hygiene Council, c.1930. Three (3) sex education booklets, each imparting the facts of life to one of three groups: parents, young women, and young men. Published as a part of a public health and education initiative by the British Social Hygiene Council, each booklet aims to address sex as something that is natural, but also inherently dangerous; after all, "The only way to keep healthy is to avoid fornication; the man who fornicates will sooner or later catch disease" ("Sex in Life. Young Men.", p. 21). Venereal disease is discussed at length, masturbation is condemned, and women are urged to act responsibly, "For the sake of Great Britain" ("Sex in Life. Young Women.", p. 43). Parents are urged to be transparent but firm with their children. The three booklets include:
