"Health! Ease! Comfort!" - Advert for Mrs. Smith's Queen City Skirt Suspenders
Cincinnati, Ohio: Queen City Suspender Company, [1880s?]. Advertisement for Mrs. Smith's Skirt Suspenders, sold by the Queen City Suspender Co. of Cincinnati, with confident claims: "The most desirable and beneficial article ever invented for the relief of women, many of whom have suffered long years of miserable health, caused solely by carrying the weight of a number of heavy skirts upon their hips, completely dragging them down" (p. [1]). Queen City products were sold by the company's "lady agents", i.e. contracted representatives (p. [3]). On this copy, a contemporary ink stamp reads "Fannie A. Drake, - Agent Southhampton, N.Y." Bifolium (8.25" by 5.5"). Fine; one small stain to upper right-hand corner, not affecting text.
