Alternative Travelogue - European Tour Toilet Tissue Collection c1950s. ..
A small collection including samples of toilet tissue  from Zurich Switzerland, Italy, Hotel Atlantic in Frankfort, Germany,  Den Haag, Luxemborg, and products titled "SANILAV -  the perfumed Lavatory Cleaner", "British No. 3" ,"Jeyes" and "Deutsche Bundesbahn".  Also included but somewhat unremoved is a show polishing cloth from Italy..
 Silent Fortune Teller, An Astrology Chart, and Tea Advertisement. A. E. Dupell Advertising Company.Brooklyn, NY.[1910]
A double sided chart with instructions to help one tell fortunes. The front side depicts a colorful chart with a portrait of an Indian woman at the center. Branching out like spokes on a wheel are the astrological signs, your planet, prominent trait, and then five rows of random letters. In the four corners are the words: Luck, Wishes, Wealth, Marriage. According to the instructions on the back one is supposed to count the letters in each row, and select a letter based on the instructions (every 8th letter in the first row, every 6th letter in the second row, etc.), once completed these letters should form words, which will give one their fortune. Also on the back is a n advertisement for Ceylon and Indian Tea, as "The Silent Fortune Teller Does not answer questions relating to Health". If you follow the ad's instructions on how to make tea ("Never boil tea. Use boiling water"), the drinker is assured good health. Additionally, information on the the Indian Goddess Seeta is provided, as the name of the tea is derived from her. Dated since the Dupell Advertising Company moved locations from New York City to Brooklyn in 1908. Measures 7" x 7 1/2".
 Columbia Club -Second Masquerade Ball. Heppenheimer & Maurer.Irving Hall, New York City.1882
A 4 1/4" x 6 1/4" used ticket (no. 1020) for the Columbia Club second Grand Masquerade Ball, Thursday Jan'y 26th, 1882,  at Irving Hall.Ticket 2 Dollars.  Admit Gentleman & Lady.  Depicts a winged cherub in a jester's hat leading a pack of costumed merrymakers.   The perforation at the left of the card indicates it was actually used for admission.  The reverse lists the Committee of Arrangements. . The Columbia University Club of New York is a private university alumni club that extends membership to all graduates of all the schools and affiliates of Columbia University, as well as Columbia undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and administrators.

Vibrant splatter art watercolors.  Three (3) of the four (4) watercolors are abstract stylized stereotypic Africans; two are drummers and dancers, the third a group of hunters.  The final image is three (4) pair of ostriches.  Each measures 10" x 13". .
Two  Whimsical Silhouette Cards - The Grecian Bend. Fay, (E.B.).New York.1880s
Two (2) 3 1/2" x 2 1/2" black and white advertising cards promoting (E.B.) Fay, 100 Nassau Street, New York.  Fay was a dealer in photography.   The Silhouette design exemplifies the fashion craze of the late 1870s and early 1880s.  Each card portrays the woman standing at about a 45 degree angle with the prominent exaggeration of the bustle or Grecian Bend. The first is captioned The "Grecian Bend," Drawing Room Dress.  The second reads "She Stoops to Conquer".  Fay, 100 Nassau Street printed at base.  Reverse is blank.
 Menu Triennial Dinner - Class of 1882 - Bowdoin College. .Sagadah House, Bath ME.June 25, 1885
A 9 3/4" x 7" menu printed on heavy card stock for the Triennial Dinner.  Illustration depicts a well sated corpulent diner being catered to by tiny minions dancing on mushrooms, diving in champagne and serving up food. Fare includes Blue Point Oysters, Brook Trout, Roast Plover and more.  The caption at base reads "I had a dream which was not all a dream" --Byron. Perhaps a reference to the illustration..
 10 Scherenschnitte Scissors Cuttings Done after those of Hans Christian Andersen. Caroline Stokes.Sandy Hook, CT.[1980]
The whimsy and fantasy found in many of his stories can be seen in these reproductions of works originally created by Andersen.  In the first scherenschnitte you will see a character in his likeness unable to attain the ballerina at the top of the tree with Cupid in the tree giving him advise. The next cutwork depicts an overwhelmed fellow with an entire village atop his hat.  And so they go with ballerinas, hearts, swans and more throughout.   The approximate 3" to 5" cutouts are affixed to a concertina folded card stock folder. . Andersen often fell in love with unattainable women, and many of his stories are interpreted as references
