Printed verse and line-drawn Cupid within. The epitome of WhitneyMade.   The second is heart shaped depicting a young girl knitting.  Inside verse reads, “Just a tiny Valentine For a little friend like mine. This is one of three penny dreadful or vinegar valentine paper dolls we are offering in this catalog.  Vinegar valentines were quite popular from to the mid 19th C to  the early part of the 20th Century.  They were usually sent anonymously and with a bit of a mean-spiritedness to someone you were not fond of.  Usually not signed...  These are a variation on the theme, as they are dressed scrap paper dolls being used with the same malicious intent.  This one is “Mother in Law” and depicts a stereotypical view of the proper mother-in-law with white gloves, carrying her umbrella.   Measures 4” x 6”.  Condition: light wear on card; otherwise fine.

A 13 1/2" x 10 1 /2" page from a paper doll house book.  c1890s.  The book was long ago disbound, but we're offering this page with an  individual room with a paper doll to occupy it, on each side.  The first side is a dining room with two tables that have removable fringed paper tablecloths that store in the top of the table.  The shade or curtain at top lifts to show a window.  We've added the lady of the house holding a folded hand fan.  The reverse side is a sitting room with a fainting couch, large chandelier, rocking chair and ornate fan shaped mirror with silvered paper center.  We've added a seated woman reading a book.  Note: The items we've added were found cut and are of the same period as the rooms. We've included them as accents to the rooms; they are not attached, but do add interest.  Charming schoolgirl construction, that makes you want to play paper dolls... Condition: moderate wear. A 6 ½” pencil drawn adolescent girl paper doll with 19 handmade costumes and 15 pinafores.  Note the cut bow closure at back and a 3 ½” infant with 11 layettes, 4 dresses and 2 mantles.  Many constructed of decorated paper.  They were given with a hand constructed  pop-up valentine note for Myra H. Gould of Vermont, presumably the receiver of the paper dolls.  The dolls were most likely made by the giver at an earlier time in her life. Dolls appear to be c1860s-70s and note from the 1880s..

Image from photograph of observers in a stadium with an armed guard in the foreground. A tennis racket superimposed atop the the scene.  This poster was created in conjunction with the David Cup celebrated in Bastad, Sweeden in 1975.  
The Norwegian artist Kjartan Slettemark produced a poster encouraging people to stop the tennis matches in protest against the Childean military regime.  Culminated with Chile's defeat in the matches.
