This is a dime novel from the International Magazine, and it is the first in the series. It features Agent John Merrill from the Government Detective Service solving a mystery. This is only a portion of the story as it continues on it in International Tales of Mystery No. 2. In addition to the story there are several advertisements, answers to correspondents sections, and a whit and humor section. The covers show some edge wear, as well as a small section of missing surface litho at the top of the front cover. There is some general toning due to age, otherwise fine. A Telegram message by Sophie, delivered at Hamburg, New Jersey, March 2, 1902. Reported by Pastor H.J. Roberts, copyrighted by Sophie Lichtenfels. Written in a German accent, "De Lord has given me a telegram to deliver to you peeples dis morning" Sophie lived near her church in New York City and felt she was bon a preacher. 482 pp. Decorative green cloth covers with gilt stamp."Approved by Physicians of All Classes", this book was part cookbook, part health manual, and part domestic guide. It sought to codify and simplify the information and skills needed to efficiently and effectively run any household. Broken into 2 parts over thirty-two (32) chapters, the first part focuses on the kitchen. It supplies a variety of recipes that are both "economical and healthful" as well as providing tips to save on labor and how to properly season one's food. The second part focuses on what Beecher calls the "laws of health" and was meant to help a mother take care of herself and her children. Included with the book are several cut-outs; one a hand written recipe for sponge cake and another is a newspaper article on potpourri. There are several illustrations and diagrams throughout the book as well.   Measures 7 1/2" x 5". Moderate cover and edge wear. Some soiling and toning due to age (or the few inserts of recipes or news paper articles mentioned above) There is also a stain on the lower right of the book that continues through out the book but lessens in size towards the end. Catharine Esther Beecher was an American educator known for her forthright opinions on female education as well as her vehement support of the many benefits of the incorporation of kindergarten into children's education. She was also of Harriet Beecher Stowe, the 19th century abolitionist and writer most famous for her groundbreaking novel Uncle Tom's Cabin. A stove flue cover with a lithograph of a pair of winged cherubs or angels sitting in the clouds.

The first section starts on page 19 and goes to 62, and the second section starts at page 27 and goes to 48. The spine is cracked, and the covers are partially detached with some intact tears. The pages are toned and brittle.

Lucien Metivet (1863-1930/32) was a French poster artist, illustrator, cartoonist, and author. A collection of cartoon sketches with quotes entirely in French. 9 1/2" x 6 3/4". small tears in cover spine, all text in French, has glassine cover 700 pages, (plus fascinating ads of books) with twenty-six black and white illustrations. The title page states: "a complete history of metropolitan life and society, with sketches of prominent places, persons and things in the city, as they actually exist."  With over ninety chapters, almost every subject is covered, such as 'Fifth  Avenue', 'The Restaurants', 'Cornelius Vanderbilt', 'The Thieves', 'Children and Society', 'The Beggars', and 'Street Railways'. The illustrations either showcase locations in New York, or portraits such as 'Street Arabs' or 'Street Beggars'. The author, Junius Henri Brown, was a famous Civil War correspondent for the New York Tribune and New York Times. Brown linen covers over boards, measures 9" x 5 3/4" . Covers show moderate edge wear, with general soiling and staining due to age. The binding is cracked, and there is a tear in the linen cover on the front in the bottom left corner. The interior pages are moderately toned and soiled, with some water stains on the right edge of the page, these stains due not impact readability, or visually impact any of the illustrations. Overall, good condition.

384 pp. Leather cover, fold out map at back of book depicting "part of Turkey with Greece" with and inset of "Plan of Constantinople", dedication page to the "Members of the Boston Female Seminary, for the Promotion of Christianity among the Jews", second edition. "I went to the Mediterranean particularly with the view of investigating the condition of the Jews", the book follows his travels from leaving Boston to Gibraltar, Malta, Smyrna, and Constantinople. 7 1/4" x 4 1/4". wear on cover, foxing and some staining throughout, inscribed This book details the events of September 6, 1781, when the British Army engaged a small Connecticut militia force in New London, CT and Groton, CT. After the British forces had burned most of the town of New London, they turned their attention to Fort Griswold located in Groton. What followed was Battle of Groton Heights (aka the Battle of Fort Griswold or the Fort Griswold massacre), as British forces attempted to storm the fort. While eventually the British would be victorious, they sustained heavily losses, and furthermore incited the anger of Americans as it was reported that slaughtered the majority of the Connecticut militia after they had surrendered. The book is authored by two men: an introduction and notes written by William W Harris, and 'revised and enlarged, with additional notes' by Charles Allyn. The book has sixteen black and white illustrations including engravings, maps, and heliotypes. 399 pp., Green cloth over board covers, with a stamped drawing of Fort Griswold on the front cover. Measures 9 1/2" x 6 1/4" . Covers show edge wear, and the cloth covering is crack on the edge and by the binding. Binding is loose and cracked. Interior pages are soiled and toned due to age. Front interior cover in annotated by a previous owner. There are also some notes in the margins in pencil on some interior pages. Interior pages are toned due to age, with minor foxing.

Menu sheets presenting the bill of fare and wines for the annual dinners of the society. Each of the menus is elaborately illustrated and includes at least one beautiful woman and in most instances elaborate architectural structures. Each is illustrated by A. Beignet. They are from 1890, 1891, 1892, 1895, 1896, 1897, 1899, 1901, 1902, 1906, 1908, and 1909. Reverse is blank. The largest is approx. 9” x 13”. Few with light edge wear. Some with light scrapbook residue on reverse at top, most likely from one person’s collection. . unpaginated, brown cloth gilt title, black and white sketches throughout mixed with minimal text, enclosed in matching cloth gilt box. This truly unique book describes Mr. Pipp's travels with "Mrs. Pipp and the girls" through London, Paris, America, the Riviera, Italy, Monte Carlo and the adventures and people they encounter both on he trip and once returning home to England. Reverse of title page explains first eight scenes of Mr. Pipp's career originally published in "Sketches and Cartoons".
