A 5” x 3” elaborate and intricate lace paper with Cupid in a sail boat as the center cartouche.  The delicate center design is actually part of the lace paper attached only by the grasses on the side and from the mast and flags at top. Gilt enhanced.  Floral scraps at base and top.  The top scrap is captioned “I Cling to Thee”.  Backed with a large magenta and two green wafers.   A delicate stand alone lace paper; no indication of having been attached to a valentine.  A truly fine piece of Victorian lace c1850s.
